BILL M 218–2019 (British Columbia)
SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY PROTECTION ACT
As you have read about on the pages within this website, Bill M 218-2019 is not clearly drafted and, if passed may lead to significant, unwarranted legal intrusions into the lives of many professionals, families, and children.
But, there is good news – YOU can make a difference!
SIGN OUR PUBLIC PETITION – When submitted to the government, a petition with many signatures draws attention and acts as a call to action. Your voice matters. Our future freedoms depend on it!
WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR MLA – Every political region in BC has a representative whose job is to represent the views and perspective of their constituents. A quantity of individual letters from constituents is likely to do two things:
a) educate your MLA about the area or areas of Bill M 218-2019 you are concerned about, and
b) cause them to look into it for themselves.
Unfortunately, we cannot assume that our MLA’s have read the Bill, so let’s encourage them to read it.
There are 2 steps to this process:
- Use this Search Tool to find your MLA’s name and address.
- Write and send a personal letter to your MLA .
- You can write a personal letter using this Microsoft Word template as a starting point. It is best not to simply duplicate this letter, however, but to translate it into your words and personalize it, so that it genuinely comes “from you.”
We hope that you will join us in participating in our democratic process in this way, and that you will also encourage others to do so.
